I was reading one of your articles by Miles Willis and I have to say that I STRONGLY DISAGREE with his commentary called "Halle Berry's Oscar Nomination is an Ironic Tragedy!" What intrigues me is the fact that he could criticize, when in fact he admits he hadn't seen Monsters Ball yet! It always amazes me how black men can criticize Halle for her role in Monsters Ball but yet say nothing about Denzel winning an Oscar for a bad cop. As a black man his role should be more of a concern to you than Halle's role. While he keeps crying about Halle being with a white man in Monsters Ball, may I remind him that the woman that Denzel was grinding, loving and kissing "up on" in Training Day wasn't a black woman so if you're going to make a big deal about interracial relationships on film then address that too! Mr. Miles Willis is so quick to point out black female actresses and white male actor relationships on film but excuse me, I can name PLENTY of films that featured Black male actors and White female actresses in sexual or romantic relationships like -Westley Snipes, 90% of all of his movie especially that dud he made called One night Stand. What happened to the sista that was in Blade 1, why wasn't there a sista in Blade 2?
Jim Brown, OJ Simpson and lets NOT forget Fred Williams, who couldn't make a film unless white women were in it, he's the king of this subject and was always screwing around with white females in his films. In one of his films he had a black girlfriend and dogged her out for a blond white woman. All through the black films of 1970s, we were bombarded with image of black men in sexual relationships with white females, those images were constantly thrown in our faces all of the time, so I don't want to hear any nonsense about Pam Grier with a white man in FOXY BROWN. I need to mention too, that most of those black soul brothas from the 70s went on to marry white women but the sistas he mentioned who starred wih white men in flms liked Whitney, Halle , Pam Grier and Angela Bassett married black men. I know I'm getting side tracked but my point is, I'm tired of black men complaining about Monsters Ball or complaining about sistas with white men in Hollywood movies. Stop bitching & complaining about black actresses getting down with white boys in movies when there are just as many male black actors and musical artists doing the same thing .........even more! All you have to do is rent the films at your local video store.
