AFRICAN AMERICAN PROSE

INNER PEACE
By Cikeithia Sellers

What makes a person at peace
With themselves and their circumstances
When there are adversities and evil entities
That must be confronted daily
Where there is no love for thyself
Will that also be displayed
Towards the creator
Inner love will be automatically
Placed within self
Is it true that misery loves company
Once an acquaintance is made
With that of a lower entity
Is it not a force that tries to rob another
Of joy and peace
Today I will try to remove discord
And place harmony where it is most needed
Why is it that when the heart is lonely
One seeks flesh to ease the heartache
But once the desire has been filled
It is not so that the loneliness then continues
More than ever before
Because the unity of lust
Was not that of love and commitment
But of fulfillment of the flesh and mind
Why are negative feelings nestled
In the bosom of woman
And not thrown in the lake of fire
Forever to burn
Is the cleaving of man and woman necessary
To feel complete with oneself
My heart beats with anticipation and love
Of what my creator has placed before me
The truth is that the spirit is willing
But the flesh is weak
Be not in love of others
But be in love with the creator
Who will send everlasting
And pure love to you
Are you not his child
Seed of your mother
Which deserves unconditional love
Wouldn't you like to be deprived
Of hate distrust restlessness and jealousy
That alters your behavior
This is not to say that sometimes
Trials and tribulations
Will not be encountered
But the priceless gift from the creator
Is everlasting harmony
