AFRICAN AMERICAN PROSE

LARGER HANDS
By Cikeithia Sellers

A man was swimming in the ocean
Unaware that he had gone too far
Panic set in as he began to gasp for air
All sorts of feelings raced through his body
Fear that no one would realize he was gone
Until his body washed ashore

Anxious to get back fast
But how
He had suddenly forgotten how to swim
His body frozen
He began to call on the Lord
As he went under again

Dying without making things right
Was the worst of all things he felt
His body went limp as he floated
He places his life in larger hands
Life was restored

Not knowing how long he was unconscience
He gasped for air as the waves pushed him
Coughing realizing fear was his enemy

He submitted to courage
And began to swim to shore
Realizing it wasn't him
It was God's will
Praise and thanks is all that he could give
We as spirits in the human sense
Wait until it is necessary
To relinquish all to our creator

Until it is life or death
While enjoying the fruits of our labor
We utter no words
When limits have been crossed
We look back on all the miles we've traveled
And never acknowledge it was our Father
That got us there

How many times do we take advantage
Of our second chances
Including Him in our lives
Remember her didn't have to make
Our human errors turn out right
Give Him praise before you sleep tonight
For things He knows will happen
And you wait to be revealed
