AFRICAN AMERICAN PROSE

PASS IT ON
By Cikeithia Sellers

Never too old to learn
Never to young to teach
For I am you and you are me

Together we grow
Separate we die
Success is for all not a secret for one
Your accomplishments are admired
Not shared to make a mockery of
Hold your head high
Stretch your arm out to reach
Another sister in pain
Otherwise your knowledge
Also becomes your sin

We all march to the same beat
But at different speeds
So when you have completed your struggle
Through just one stage
Help the next sister
Who is tired of her own parade

Low self-esteem has worn her down
Abuse made her bitter
Drugs got her high
Same band for most of us self and men

Different beats domestic violence drugs
Abandonment dignity endurance
To finish no matter what the circumstances are
But abandonment brings her down
So she gives him what he wants every time
'Cause dignity cannot be found

If you have walked a mile
In one of her shoes
You cannot let her die
As her sister you must share
The success that turned you around
